Google Tower Photovoltaic System

This photovoltaic system is a highlight of the electrical infrastructure in downtown Austin, Texas.  Although the city has a large number of solar panel installations, this project is only the third to be installed on the electric utility’s downtown secondary network.  There is a multitude of challenges with the installation of renewable energy sources on the downtown network due to the higher standards for reliable power and occupant safety in dense population areas.  We coordinated carefully with the electric utility’s power systems engineers to design the interconnection gear with a three-tiered control system that impressed both the client and the electric utility engineers.
