Electric Bicycles

Provided full MEP Engineering for an electric bicycle sales, assembly and warehouse building.  The electrical engineering for this project was particularly challenging because the existing building was an unconditioned warehouse, supplied by a dated style of electrical service called 240 Volt delta high-leg, with which many engineering firms are no longer familiar.  Our scope was to convert half of the unconditioned warehouse and a new mezzanine into conditioned space.  This increased the electrical load significantly and took the project close to needing an upgrade with the electric utility, which would have sent the project over-budget and months beyond its scheduled date of completion.  In response, we developed a plan to work within the limitations of the existing electrical service with a combination of high-efficiency heat pump HVAC systems and careful balancing of the three-phase system.  In the end, we were able to design the necessary safety modifications to the electrical system without the added time and resources of a new electric utility service design.
